The use of aromatic plants has occurred in every people known to anthropology. Ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, used balsams, perfumed oils and scented barks for medicine and food preservation, as well as aromatic bath and massage. The Romans popularized the use of aromatic oils in their bath houses, as well as in the making of beautification products and health care.

Modern society fell away from the use of simple plant extracts due to mass production of convenience products. Unfortunately, the synthetic ingredients in the manufactured products most of us use in and on our bodies is causing sickness, headaches and are contaminating the environment. Medical science also pushes the synthesized reproductions of these simple oils, making the drug companies rich and the users suffering the side effects of this so called medicine.

There is a movement within this same society which has recognized that they can still treat a cough, sooth a rash and soften skin by using simple natural ingredients which are provided by nature.
